Sunglasses eye protection

Why eye protection a must today?

Eyes are one of the delicate organs that get attacked by germs, dust and harmful ultraviolet rays. Due to the increased level of ultra violet radiation that reach earth’s surface because of ozone layer depletion, it become important to take precautions to protect eyes. Most of the people do not know that uv rays from sun not only damages skin, but they can also damage eyes. UV radiation can damage the eyes affecting surface tissues and internal structures such as cornea and lens, cataracts, skin cancer around eye lids and other eye disorders.
There were two types of ultra violet rays. UV-A and UV-B, this radiation can absorb into retina of eyes and result in damage of eye. Here arises the importance of using branded sunglasses.
Some common eye disorders that developed through continuous exposure of eyes without using any eye wear including prescriptive glasses or fashionable eye wear are:

1.       Cataract:  clouding of eye’s lens that can blur vision.
2.       Photokeratitis: A temporary burn to cornea due to the exposure of direct sunlight when the light is high.
3.       Pterygium:  Abnormal and non- cancerous growth in the corner of eye. It can grow over cornea, blocking the vision. This problem can be treated through a surgery.
4.       Skin cancer around eye lid: in most cases, this type of cancer occurs on the lower eye lid, but chance for occurrence in any other portion of eye is also high.

There were different varieties of sunglasses available in the market today. These sunglasses are of different shape, various colored lenses and of different price range.  While buying sunglasses, never go for cheaper sunglasses, since these sunglasses never offers actual protection from sun. Branded sunglasses made by a trusted manufacturer will be a better option.
While selecting sunglasses, the color of lenses indicates the type of protection that offers. While purchasing sunglasses, prefer bronze or reddish- brown colored lenses to get the most protection.

The quality of sunglass also matters more. Not all lenses are made equal.  Check the lenses to ensure they are coated evenly and there are no darker or lighter spots on the lens. Another important factor that influences sunglass usability against ultra violet rays is the shape of glass.  The sunglass having small lens leave the tender skin around the eyes uncovered. But those sunglasses having larger lenses wrap around the eyes block ultra violet rays from sneaking in from side. The protection of eye by using any eye covering eye wear helps to reduce early aging of eyes and preserve the sharpness of the eyes.
